Des Moines African Youth Festival Awards is a federally recognized 501c3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization. As such, we rely on volunteers for many things, volunteers are not a full-time source of workers nor are they always available. As a Nonprofit, we are formed explicitly to benefit the public good.

Des Moines African Youth festival awards, known as DAFESTA, is Iowa’s biggest annual African Youth festival event. We serve the whole Greater Des Moines community by sharing African culture and heritage through music, food, and costumes. Our participants consist of people living in Greater Des Moines and willing to learn about African culture and heritage. While we appeal to those with African heritage, we welcome and include those with any background. This is important because this platform promotes the rich African culture and heritage among Africans and other races in the United States. This will ensure unity amidst cultural diversity and will help to curb all forms of tribalism or racism in Greater Des Moines and around this great country.

Cultural Tapestry – Our organization Supports arts, culture, and heritage as diverse, accessible, inclusive, and equitable throughout Central Iowa. Because it focuses on the performance and promotion of African culture and heritage through a live performance of various African musical genres and fashion models through the annual African youth festival in Iowa, this African Youth Festival Award is the first of its kind in the united states, especially in Des Moines, Iowa, to search, discover, refine and reward African youth who have in their talent for music, modeling, and other performing industry.

OPEN POSITIONS

Des Moines African Youth Festival Awards is accepting applications for a part time volunteer/worker for the below positions.

What We’re Seeking
The successful candidate for this position is a focused and outgoing individual. Most of the time your work will be done virtually trough organization meetings and in person on our organization events:

  • Works collaboratively with a diverse group of people
  • Treats people courteously and be responsive to their needs
  • Displays high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Commits to providing a high-quality service
  • Addresses and listens to others in respectful manner
  • Possesses a high level of organization skills and is process-driven

What You’ll Do
You will be an integral member of our wonderful team, by providing direct support to the following:

A. SECRETARY

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to the board
  • Types/proofs correspondence, reports, minutes, etc. for accuracy, grammar, spelling, sentence structure;
  • prepares final draft for distribution/mailing.
  • Scans checks along with corresponding financial data into
  • Performs admirative tasks including drafting letters, memos, invoices, reports, and other organization document as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma, and higher
  • Be able to use office apps (words, excel)
  • Self motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Be over 18

B. CONTENT CREATOR

  • As a Content Creator, you will be responsible for ideating, producing, and editing post that align with our brand’s aesthetic and tone of voice
  • Ideate and create engaging and entertaining social media post that align with our brand’s aesthetic and tone of voice
  • Collaborate with our creative team to develop video concepts that showcase our products in an exciting and innovative way
  • Edit and post videos on our social media accounts, ensuring that all videos are optimized for maximum engagement and reach
  • Stay updated with the latest social media trends and incorporate these into our video content
  • Analyze video performance metrics to identify areas of improvement and make data-driven decisions to optimize future videos

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma, and higher
  • Be able to use editing apps
  • Self motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Be over 18
